Autumn/Fall bucket list

I love Autumn, I mean I really, really Love Autumn, along with Spring it is one of my favourite seasons. I think it’s the thought of cosy nights in, hot chocolate, big oversized cosy jumpers, red and orange leaves, pumpkins and of course Halloween that makes me look forward to it after the summer.

This year we have decided to write a little bucket list for things for us to do in autumn and I thought I would share it with you.

  1. First thing to do in Autumn, is collect conkers, which we did a few weeks ago and we had a conker tournament with them. You can watch our video about it here. It was good fun and took me back to my childhood, when everyone brought in their conkers on a string into school, back when it wasn’t banned in schools!
  2. Go Apple picking. There is just something about picking your own apples. I just love how they look with the little leaves still attached to the stem.
  3. Go to a fireworks display. Here in the UK we celebrate Guys Fawkes night (bonfire night) on 5th November after Guy Fawkes’ attempt to blow up the King and the houses of parliament in 1605.
  4. Make an apple crumble. Mmmmm I love apple crumble with a bit of custard or ice cream and even better if you use the apples that you picked yourself.
  5. Visit a pumpkin patch. This is quite a new thing to the UK, but more and more and popping up and they have such a great selection of different size, colour and types of pumpkins.
  6. Carve pumpkins. So once you have chosen your pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, you then need to carve it or paint it, as I see more and more people doing this now.
  7. Watch Halloween movies. I really want to see Hocus Pocus as I have heard lots of people recommending it but I’ve never actually seen it. So that is top of my watch list.
  8. Roasted squash. I highly recommend Harlequin squash, to cut into quarters and roast. It tastes delicious.
  9. Have a pumpkin spiced latte. Now this is a bit weird for me as I don’t actually like coffee, but I just want to say I’ve tried one and you never know I might actually like it with the spices in.
  10. Make a pumpkin pie. I have never even tried a pumpkin pie, let alone made one, but with all the different pumpkins and squashes available here now, I would love to have a go at making one.
  11. Create Halloween costumes. We live on a new housing development and everyone gets involved at Halloween. We all decorate our houses and all the children go trick or treating, even people that don’t live here, drive to come trick or treating here and the whole place is just buzzing. So of course the girls need costumes, so we try to make them.
  12. Make a chilli. On bonfire night, after being out in the cold watching the fireworks, coming home to a chilli, with either rice or on a jacket potato, is just bliss.
  13. Donate items to a food bank. We try to do this throughout the year when we can anyway as our local supermarket has a basket to collect things, but I just feel like I’d like to donate more.
  14. Toast marshmallows. I’d actually like to try and make S’Mores, but if I get the stuff for them then just toasting marshmallows on a small fire-pit on a cold evening will have to do.
  15. Have an autumn photo shoot. The leaves and the light are so beautiful at this time of year that I’d like to get some lovely photos of us all playing in the leaves.
  16. Light an autumn scented candles. Home sense have a great selection of candles and I picked up a pumpkin spiced scented candle for £7.99 and it smells gorgeous.
  17. Make chocolate covered apples. Toffee apples are more traditional but they stick to your teeth, so we make chocolate covered ones with hundreds and thousands on them too.
  18. Visit a maize/corn maze. This has only recently become a tradition for us, but its really good fun. Some pumpkin patches also have these too, so can do both.

I would love to know what you have on your Autumn bucket list and what traditions you have too?
