Crochet Sunflower

There is something about a sunflower that just makes me smile. No matter what, they are always reaching for the sun.
So when I wanted to make a flower wreath I knew that I had to include sunflowers in there.

Sunflower

To make these sunflower I used some DK yarn but if you only have aran or chunky you can still use that, it will just turn out a bit bigger. tension also doesn’t matter but again if you are a tight crocheter it will come out smaller than if you are a loose crocheter!

These sunflowers are great to use in a wreath or garland. You could add a little keychain and use them as a bag charm or keyring. Or you could add some covered wire and make a little bunch of them to sit in a pretty jar.

This is the first pattern that I have written for other people, so if you have any questions please message me.

This is what you are also going to need –
– Yellow yarn
– Brown yarn
– A 4mm Hook
– A pair of scissors
– A darning needle
– Stitch marker
– Toy stuffing (if you want to stuff them)

The yellow yarn I used was The womens institute from Hobby Craft but I have taken the ball band off from the brown one and I can’t remember where I got it from.

This pattern is written in UK terms.

Sunflower middle (make two but on one of them skip Row 6)

When you finish the round DO NOT JOIN, use a stitch marker to keep track of where you are.

Ch – Chain
st – Stitch
slst – Slip Stitch
DC – Double Crochet
Tr- Treble Crochet

With the brown yarn, Ch3 and join to make a circle.
ROW 1 – 6DC into the centre of circle (6st)
ROW 2 – 2DC in each st (12st)
ROW 3 – 1DC, 2DC in next st, repeat 5 more times (18st)
ROW 4 – 1DC, 1DC, 2DC, Repeat 5 more times (24st)
ROW 5 – 1DC, 1DC, 1DC, 2DC, Repeat 5 more times (30st)
ROW 6 – 1DC in each st round, slst into first st and fasten off.

Sunflower Petals
Join the yellow yarn in any st.

(Ch2, 1Tr, ch3 and slst into first ch to make a picot) all in the same st
In the next st (1Tr, ch2, slst), slst into next st.

Repeat above 14 more times, making the last slst into where you started at the beginning of the round. You will have 15 petals all together.

If you want to stuff them, then sew the 2nd circle onto the back, leaving a small gap to stuff with toy stuffing and then finish sewing together.

I hope you enjoy the pattern.

This is a free pattern but I would love you to tag me @rosieandmaxcrafts if you use it, thank you.
