Friday 8th May marks the 75th anniversary of VE Victory in Europe) day and I thought it would be fun to have a little typically British garden party but I didn’t want to spend loads of money on decorations and also with the way things are at the moment, I wasn’t sure if I ordered them that they would get here on time. So in true ‘Amy’ style I decided to make some and I thought I would share them with you in case you wanted to do the same!
One thing that we are not short on in my house in yarn, so the first thing I thought of was to make red, white and blue pompoms and stick a wooden kebab stick into the middle (be careful, they are sharp!) to make a sort of pom pom flower. I am then going to stand them in the ground in my flower beds and also put a bunch in an old olive jar as a table centre piece.
I also wanted to have some little Union Jack flags, so I printed some out and the girls and I have been colouring them in, we then cut them out and attached them to some string to make some bunting. I manmged to get 4 on an A4 sheet of paper and have added it here as a printable for you to make some too. Gives the kids something to do!
I then grabbed some red, white and blue tissue paper from my stash (I like to use it to make presents pretty!) and followed this tutorial to make tissue paper pom poms. I love these and i’m gutted that I don’t have enough tissue paper to make loads!
Before I made the PomPoms I pinched a couple of sheets of the paper out of the pack to make some tissue paper tassel garland and for this I followed this tutorial. Although I made my tassels a little shorter as when I have made them before they all got caught up and tangled in the wind.
I can’t wait to put all the decorations up on Friday and sit out in the garden, along with our triangle sandwiches, scones and carrot cake and celebrate VE Day
Do you have any plans for the bank holiday?
