Not another new craze I hear you say…
This one though is not only fun for all the family but also encourages you to get out walking too, which sometimes might be a struggle with some children, when all they want to do is play Fortnite or watch YouTube (yep that will include my children!!)
Rock painting is relatively cheap to do and something fun to do in the summer holidays.
So the idea is that you paint your rock (acrylic paint works best but you can also use sharpies and nail varnish) and on the back of your rock add the rock Facebook group that you are member of and then hide the rock for someone to find. This is a UK rock page called Love on the Rocks UK but there are lots of smaller local ones too. Hopefully when found they will then take a photo and post to your Facebook group and either keep the rock or re-hide for someone else to find.
It certainly brightens my day if I find a pretty painted rock and is also very relaxing and calming to sit and paint too.
So what will you need to get started?
You will need;
Rocks (Do not take these from public places!) – you can get some good ones from your local garden centre.
Acrylic paint, nail varnish, or permanent markers like sharpies
Varnish
PVA glue
Selection of paintbrushes
Before you paint your design, you need to paint a pale base coat first because then your design colour will be more vibrant. Once your base layer is dry you can paint and draw on your chosen design. Once that has dried I cover mine in a layer of PVA/school glue before covering in varnish to help seal all the colours in and so that it doesn’t fade when outside in the rain and sunshine.
The biggest problem I had what thinking up something to paint onto my rocks, so I thought I would put together some ideas for you that I came across when looking for inspiration.
NOTE: these are not all my designs and I have shared the link to the site I found them on.
