Frugal tips to help Kids stay cool in the Heatwave

So here in the UK we have been having some very unusual weather (for us!), we have been having lots and lots of sunshine. In fact in this part of Kent where I am, I don’t think we have had any rain for about 6 weeks! But not only has it not rained, it has been very hot, with temperatures reaching 32 degrees some days.

With the beautiful sunshine, also comes the “it’s too hot” and “I can’t get to sleep” from the children, ok from me too haha!

So I thought I would write a little blog post on my top frugal tips for keeping cool and having lots of fun at the same time.

  1. Freeze a bottle of drink over night, ready for the kids to take to school the following day. Not only will this ensure they have a cold drink to drink during the day but they can also use the frozen bottle to place on the back of their neck to cool themselves down during break times.
  2. Make your own ice lollies. I don’t know about you, but we go through lots of ice lollies and not just in the summer! These can work out quite costly, so we tend to make our own in a re-usable ice lolly mold, like this one here. Oh wait a minute, I’ve just seen these too – I like the look of these…
Yep just added some to my wish list for later! Ok, back to the lolly making – You can also use these to make some healthy fruit lollies too. Take a look here for lots of homemade lolly ideas.
  3. Head to the beach, river or lake and have a paddle (obviously maintain water safety guidelines of where you visit) The water will help to keep you cool and usually be the coast is a breeze which will also help keep you cool too.
  4. Pop your bed sheets in the freezer about 10/15mins before going to bed. Although this won’t keep you cool all night, it will help you stay cool for drifting off to sleep.
  5. Just before you head off to bed, run a very shallow bath with cold water only and stand in it for a minute or so.I find that if my feet are cool, I can fall asleep easier.
  6. Take some wet flannels out with you in an insulated lunch bag, with ice packs in the bag also to keep it cool and use the flannels to cool the kids down by placing them on the back of the neck of forehead. I take this when my girls have a football game to help cool them down.

    Hello ,

I saw your tweets and thought I will check your website. Have to say it looks really nice!
I’m also interested in this topic + have recently started my journey as young entrepreneur.

I’m also looking for the ways on how to promote my website. I have tried AdSense and Facebok Ads, however it is getting very expensive. Was thinking about starting using analytics. Do you recommend it?
Can you recommend something what works best for you?

Would appreciate, if you can have a quick look at my website and give me an advice what I should improve: http://janzac.com/
(Recently I have added a new page about Rockwall Investments and the way how normal people can make money with this company.)

I wanted to subscribe to your newsletter, but I couldn’t find it. Do you have it?

Hope to hear from you soon.

    P.S.
Maybe I will add link to your website on my website and you will add link to my website on your website? It will improve SEO of our websites, right? What do you think?

    Regards
    Jan Zac
