Our first Allotment Harvest

For any new readers, here is a quick re-cap…
We took on an allotment plot in February 2020, it was very over grown and didn’t have any growing beds dug out but it did have lots of various fruit trees. We set to work clearing all the weeds and digging out some beds. (I vlogged our progress, so we could see how much work we did) At the same time we also started some seeds off in trays at my mum and dads house but then Covid-19 hit and my mum unfortunately contracted the virus. This stopped us going down to the allotment for a while and when we did get back down there the weeds had started to take over again.

I managed to sow some pea seeds and some swiss chard but that was it until mum was feeling a bit better and I was sure that we were allowed to visit our allotment as part of our daily excercise.

We then started to dig out more beds and slowly sow more seeds.
Fast forward a couple of months and we have our first harvest!!!

Peas, Swiss Chard, Gooseberries and a Courgette

As well as growing lots at the allotment, I am also growing some bits at home and so are my mum and dad. This is partly because while my mum was ill, my dad was obviously self isolating and he found himself with all these seeds that had started to grow and he wasn’t able to go to the allotment to plant them on, so he decided to use the pots he had in his garden to grow some veg. I also started growing some bits at home as I wasn’t sure if we would be able to visit the allotment so I thought I would grow a very small amount (I have a tiny garden!) at home, also in some pots.

Homegrown peas

After I had harvested some Peas, swiss chard, gooseberries and a courgette from the allotment, I got home and my carrots that I was growing at in a pot at home needed thinning out, so I pulled up some of them too.

In my garden I also have a blueberry bush that I have had for quite a few years now and apart from last year, always give me a large amount of fruit. This fruit was also ready to be picked…

Picking blueberries

This is a bowl full of berries that I picked and there are still loads more on the bush. I quite often just eat them straight off the plant but we also add them to smoothies, pancakes and granola.

Bountiful blueberries

We have since had a lot more peas and swiss chard, LOADS more courgettes and we have started getting garlic and spinach now too. Mum and dad have started to dig up their potatoes from their garden but the ones at the allotment went in a bit later, so we have a few more weeks before we can take a look at those.

Are you growing any fruit or veg this year?
