Now the summer is here, I really love how much better a lot of the fruit tastes, it has so much flavour!
Although I love it, the kids still need a little convincing, so I thought how can I make it more fun for them?
First of all you need to get them involved, get them to help you buy and prepare the fruit, I have found that they are more likely to at least try it after they have prepared it.
I then saw a picture somewhere (probably on pinterest) of Rainbow fruit kebabs, so with the help of the girls we thought we would try them.
Not only did they taste amazing they looked pretty too.
The fruits that we used are listed below, but obviously you can use whatever you want and we used wooden skewers that you can easily get in most supermarkets quite cheap to put the fruit on.
- Strawberries (red), you could also use Watermelon or Raspberries
- Cantaloupe Melon (orange), you could also use Oranges
- Mango (yellow), you could also use banana or pineapple
- Kiwi (green), you could also use Honeydew melon
- Red grape (purple), you could also use sultanas
- Blueberry (dark purple), you could also use blackberries
These would make a great addition to a chocolate fountain, although not as healthy.
What fruit would you put on your kebabs?
We might have a go at making these with vegetables too and dip them into houmous or cook them on the BBQ, mmmmmm this is making me hungry now!
Take a look at some other activities, you can do with the kids in summer here.
