The Pretender – Review

A little while ago we were kindly sent a game called The Pretender from a company based in Brighton called Gamely Games. There was no obligation to post a review but I like to share things that we love and boy did we love this!

Hazel from Gamely Games designed her first game as a simple way to get her 12 year old sister away from her Ipad and involved in something fun with the family. Gamely games now have 5 fun games, Randomise, Jibbergiggle, Frozen Unicorns, Soundiculous and The Pretender and all 5 games encourage people to get together and have a laugh.

When we received our game, we waited until we were having a get together with my mum and dad to play it as The Pretender is for 4-6 players and is suitable for adults and children over 12 years old. It comes in a small box, so doesn’t take up a ridiculous amount of space either. The Pretender is a hilarious social deduction game of mini charades, bluffing and suspicion that will get you laughing and thinking creatively. It really is a game that everyone can play.

Each round, everyone knows the secret word except one person. Each person has to act out the word discreetly and uniquely enough to work out who knows the word and who is the pretender!! It gets you really thinking, as you want to act out something that is relevant but not too easy that the pretender can work out what it is.

The instructions for The Pretender were very easy to read and understand and my 14 year old twins ‘got’ the game quickly. It is now my daughters favourite game and whenever we get together with my mum and dad, she asks to play it. Next on our list to buy is Jibbergiggle as this is suitable for 3 players whereas The Pretender is for 4 or more players and a lot of the time at home there is only 3 of us that play. We also want to try Randomise as this allows up to 40 players and for birthdays we have lots of people who want to play games and this would be great for those events.

We all give this game 10/10 and thoroughly enjoy playing it.
