What to sow in July

Before I started my allotment, I thought that most things would have had to already been sown by July but I was wrong. There is so much that you can still sow in July and of course the things that can be grown throughout most of the year, like some salads and Rocket.

The other seeds that I have sown in July are;

Leeks – I have sown elefant variety and I’ll be honest, I tried growing leeks years ago (not sure of the variety) and I wasn’t very successful. Which was probably down to me not watering them enough!

Dwarf beans Purple Queen – I just liked the look of the colour of these and as they are a dwarf variety I have sown them in 30l pots.

Cabbage – April (spring) – The bed that I plan to put these in isn’t quite ready yet so I am going to sow them in pots and then by the time they are big enough to plant on the bed will be ready for them.

LettuceLittle Gem – I plan on getting a few of these in, as we eat a lot of lettuce.

Mange ToutOregon Sugar Pod – I have been succession sowing these since the end of May and will do so up until the end of July.

TurnipSnowball – These again I have been succession sowing since April time, so I’m hoping to start getting our first harvest from these but will continue to sow right through until the end of August.

Kale Candy Floss – I am instantly drawn to things that are a little bit different and although I already sown some ‘Normal’ Kale, I thought these looked fun.

RadishBlack Spanish Round – I have been growing another variety (French Breakfast 3) throughout the year in some small pots in my garden but have got these ones too as I thought they were a little bit different.

CarrotSpeedo F1 and Extremo F1 – There are so many varieties of carrot seeds about, so take a look and see what ones would suit you. I also have some Amsterdam 3 (sprint) to start sowing early next year too. Carrots are one of the things i am trying to grow so that we have a year long supply.

Swiss ChardFordhook Giant and Bright Lights – Swiss chard is very easy to grow and has quite a long growing season. So get succession sowing with these!

BeetrootBoltardy and Rainbow Beets – Again great for succession sowing.

I have been lucky enough to be given a green house, which hopefully we will be moving to our plot in the next week or so and I am so excited to start some seeds off in there and get them planted out as soon as the last frost date has been next year. I have bought some flowers seeds to start off now in pots in the green house and then plant out in my garden.

I have got Lupins, Viola Cornuta and some little forget-me-nots. Classic Cottage garden beauties.

Let me know what you are growing in July.
