Christmas Craft – Wall art Christmas Tree

Chloe and I love to get crafty and especially at Christmas time, so when we were asked to participate in a Christmas craft collaboration with Bethanie at  Northumberlandfamilydiaries, Charlotte at teamsteinblog and Bex at bexmassey, we jumped at the chance and you might find that there will be a few of these craft/DIY posts coming up.

Now i’ll be honest, I did find this a little fiddly to make and would say its better suited to older children, but if you are planning on making this with younger children then I would suggest tying all the sticks together first and then just get them to help put the decorations on, for younger children it might be easier to glue little bits on, like pom poms.

This is what you are going to need

  • Different length sticks or twigs
  • Secateurs or a saw
  • Twine or string
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Decorations (we used baubles, bells, wooden stars and little trinkets)

To Make

  1. First we collected some sticks and twigs, gave them a good clean and let them dry in the airing cupboard.
  2. Once the sticks are completely dry, lay them out in size order and trim to create a tree shape.
  3. Next comes the fiddly bit!! I tied the string to the bottom stick and worked my way up to the top stick, tying and souble knotting the string to each stick. Once I reached the top stick, I added a loop to hang it from and then came back down, again tying the string to each stick all the way down to the bottom one. Once that is done, cut off the excess string and turn the whole thing over, so that the knots are on the back.
It should now look a bit like this –
  4. Now the fun bit…
Decorate the tree however you want. We tied bells and baubles on and stuck wooden stars covered in glitter on using hot glue (only use with adult supervision)

We are delighted with the result and enjoyed spending some lovely quality mum/daughter time together.

This post has been a collab with some other lovely bloggers and they have shared some other great Christmas Craft ideas, I have added the links to their craft post below, so you can go and check their crafts out too.
